I'm just so damn proud of my friend and fellow fashion blogger who made it as finalist of this said competition. To be honest, she's one of my style icons and the office hallway used to be our very own catwalk. Thank you so much for your support, chic peeps.
Sharing with you her blog entry on who her style inspiration is. :)
Have you ever been curious and asked yourself why we wear what we wear today? And how a trend becomes a trend??
One word that is in the heart of every journalist you will ever meet-ZEITGEIST. Meaning the spirits of the times. Coco Chanel andYSL became great because both were good in feeling and capturing the spirit of their times. It was suffrage back then and they liberated women from corsets. Think pants and you get it.
What about us?? What is our zeitgeist?? Am I right to say its the internet?? What with the information revolution and everyone getting connected sure you’d agree. Good and comfortable but with too much accessibility and too much noise, showing your individuality could be quite a challenge when everyone is all the same. Good thing, God endowed us with creativity and much did He endow to Marc Jacobs- the fashion genius I will always admire. In fact, the only one in the fashion industry I totally admire. Remember Nigel telling Andy in The Devil Wears Prada that Karl and Marc are the greatest artists of our times?? That’s Marc Jacobs he meant.
Youthful, vibrant and ahead of the pack, its amazing to see how MJ can masterfully play the delicate art of balancing two opposites- stylish trashy grunge, innocent rebel, cool geek, retro and modern, and his signature pile-them-altogether-yet-you-don’t-get-an-eyesore. With the exception of Karl Lagerfeld, he is the only designer in our times that can sustain season after season those ideas that had earned fashion creds big enough to have Anna Wintour and Sofia Coppola in one show! That dear is every designers coveted dream!
I am posting here photos of notable MJ Spring/Summer designs for the past 5 years (main photo is for SS2011 and below, L-R, for 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007, respectively). Train your eyes and you’d see what I mean. Especially how these designs trickle in mass retail shops after shown in public. That is the reason why he commands a big price in the market. It’s not commercialism, he’s got to be rewarded for his talents too.
